COMMUNITY FILLS DVTA BUS WITH FOOD PANTRY DONATIONS
WEST DOVER – A DVTA bus was stuffed full with donated food items on Saturday, December 7th at Shaws Market.
The annual food drive, sponsored by the Deerfield Valley Food Pantry, usually takes the form of a special holiday season concert featuring valley-wide entertainers at Memorial Hall. The Hall was not available this year, so Food Pantry Board Member (and DVTA driver) Mary Schoonmaker suggested the stuff a bus concept to both companies.
The bus was parked outside of Shaws Market from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm, and Food Pantry volunteers handed shoppers a list of items to consider donating as they entered the store to do their shopping. Additoonal volunteers collected the food on the bus and at the end of the day it was unloaded for future distribution. Around 325 bags of food and over $1700 in cash was donated. Shaws donated 48 cases of canned vegetables.
“We are so fortunate to be asked to be part of this Valley staple” said Randy Schoonmaker, DVTA General Manager. “The community has always been incredibly generous in its support of the Food Pantry, and the Pantry’s Board and volunteers work so very hard year round to fill this need. Thanks so much to our giving community and to hard working Food Pantry volunteers to make this event a success.”
